THE OCURENT WEBSITE

Ok, I spent way too much money on my website.

After working for several years in the corporate retail environment, I had a certain standard of website that I was accustomed to. In the boardrooms, we’ve always discussed the ever-growing list of needs and strategies for improving and updating the website. I’ve worked alongside the busy and talented individuals building the site; all hours of the day. Starting out on my own, I had the impression that my website needed to be of the same standard.

While I had the right idea in theory, I didn’t realize that I was thinking too far out. Rather than hiring a talented UX designer to create my entire website for thousands of dollars, I could have put up a simple website myself for a (very small) fraction of the price. This website was one of the most expensive costs to my business, and it really did not have to be.

I know now that the most important thing to do is to start. Quickly.

I can change, improve, and optimize a website at any time, with real-life feedback and experience. It doesn’t need to be perfect, but for me, it needs to be good enough to have my name associated to it. I feel fortunate to live in a time where there is an abundance of tools (that are extremely accessible and easy to use) to build and create a business, quickly and quite nicely. If I were to give my younger self advice today, it would be to use and exhaust these website tools before hiring professional help.

Below you will find screen shots from my Ocurent website, before I closed it down. I was very proud of this creation, despite the bugs!
